GALLU WATERFALL

Gallu Waterfall, one of the hidden gems of Dharamkot, McLeodganj, Himachal Pradesh, is an offbeat destination with a mesmerizing view of lush greenery, deep valleys, rocky paths, dense forest, and the sight of the Dhauladhar mountain range of the Himalayas. Situated in Gallu village, the reach to Gallu Waterfall begins from the Gallu Devi Temple from which the waterfall got its name.

The trek from the temple to the Gallu Waterfalls is a 2km trek and moderately rough one and can take 1-2 hrs to finish. The directions are measured here firstly as a presence of a water supply pipeline nestled at the trail and secondly, mentioned on the huge rocks as you move forward. The trek needs to be completed carefully as the trails are narrow and steep in some areas with rocks and dry leaves on the way which can make this trek a bit difficult, hence make sure to wear comfortable shoes and carry your own essentials such as a bottle of water. People having any physical or respiratory issues should avoid this trek as it can have an effect on their health.

The water here is extremely cold, if you prefer to take a bath or swim in the pool in the fall do it at your own risk and also carry an extra pair of clothes. There are small shops available near and around the waterfall where you can get some refreshments. Apart from this, there are no facilities available near the waterfall as it is surrounded by the jungle. The best time to visit Gallu Waterfalls is from June to September as the weather will be warm and pleasant.

This a good opportunity for nature and adventure lovers to have a thrilling trek leading to a peaceful and serene view of the mystic streams of the waterfall with crystal clear water and soothing surroundings.

TIPS:

  • Avoid the trek during rain as it can get slippery.
  • Don't litter around the area.
  • Visit during the bright hours and make sure to return before sunset as it will be dark later and difficult to follow the trails.
